Catonsville Community Park

Walking Path Connectors Project

UPDATE: The project has been approved! We are raising funds to bridge the funding gap to pave these two crucial connections of the Catonsville Community Park Walking Path. We need your help to raise $10,000 in additional funding!

The Rotary Club of Catonsville is working with Baltimore County Recreation & Parks to pave two trails connecting Glenmore Ave and Osborne Ave to the Catonsville Community Park Walking Path (CCPWP). The two trails will be 101 feet and 164 feet respectively. Our goals for this project are to:

  1. Increase access to all the amenities and natural environment provided by the park by including those who use a walking-aid, push a stroller, ride a bike with training wheels, ride a road bike, roller blade, skate board, or use an assistive technology like a mobility scooter.
  2. Create a safer route for non-automobile modes of transportation within the Catonsville area, connecting restaurants, doctors offices, grocery stores, banks, and other various retail, via less trafficked roads with sidewalks and the CCPWP.

Osborne Ave Trail

The Osborne Ave trail is a compacted dirt rut of approximately 164’ with a mowed grassy area on either side.

Glenmore Ave Trail

The Glenmore Ave trail is a flat mulched trail approximately 101’ long.

The Catonsville Community Park (CCP) includes a senior center, playgrounds, volleyball courts, lighted ball fields, tennis/pickle ball courts, and a .4 mile paved walking path. The park’s entrance is on North Rolling Road, just south of Route 40, and it is also accessible to pedestrians via the CCPWP entrance on Dunbar Ave in northern Catonsville Heights.

In addition to providing access to the park, the CCPWP is also a well used pedestrian thruway connecting the communities and businesses in northern Catonsville and the Route 40 business sector to Main Street Catonsville. The dirt trail is unwelcoming, dangerous to bikers, inaccessible to people who use a walking aid, inaccessible to people pushing a stroller, and potentially dangerous in wet conditions. Paving these trails will provide greater access for park users and pedestrians passing through on the trail.

Support

We've received fantastic support from the Oak Crest Neighborhood Association, Councilman Pat Young, Catonsville Rails to Trails, Patapsco Heritage Greenway, and the Baltimore Community Foundation.

The Baltimore Community Foundation has awarded us $20,000 for this project and we've received a Patapsco Heritage Greenway Mini-grant for an additional $2,000!

Baltimore County Recreation and Parks has approved the project and have done considerable work to design and plan for it's completion.

The Rotary Club of Catonsville has designated $6,700 but needs to come up with an additional $10,000 to cover greater than expected costs!

Please consider a donation today!
